Coelbren Miners Welfare and Memorial Hall

Background & History:  In 1924 land, originally part of Colbren farm was conveyed to colliery workers living in the village of Colbren. The plan was to erect a memorial hall which was to be held in trust for the social well-being, recreation and conditions of living of the local colliers. In 1937 the Miners Welfare Fund granted monies to the association for the purpose of erecting an hall and instituite for the local inhabitants with restrictions upon the hall being used for gambling or the sale of alcohol. The restrictions upon the sale of alcohol was later removed.
