Personal Welfare Services

The Coal Industry Social Welfare Organisation (CISWO) is a UK wide charity, Registered Charity Number 1015581, which has a focus on delivering community and personal welfare services within mining and former mining communities.
 
Locally, CISWO has for many years provided a comprehensive range of services and support in the Coalfield Communities of South Wales to people who have links with the mining industry and although the Coal Industry has declined sharply over the past twenty years, CISWO as an organisation is still going strong and is still able to offer assistance to people at times of need.

The CISWO Social Work Service is focused on providing support and practical assistance to individuals and groups in the broad areas of health, financial and personal problem solving. What Do We Do? The CISWO Social Work Team provides a comprehensive home visiting service throughout the whole of the South Wales area. We aim to offer advice and practical assistance to any member of the South Wales Coalfield Community who would like help with any health related, financial or other personal or emotional issues.

We offer a generic social work service, as well as having specialist expertise in working with disability and the challenges facing older people in cornfield communities. Among the services offered by the CISWO Social Work Team are: Counselling and support at times of personal difficulty Benefits advice and help Help with independent living Bereavement support Information on health and disability issues As well as providing support and advice, the social work service is able to access a number of sources of funding including the CISWO Hardship Grants, the Social Intervention Fund and the local Area Trust Fund, to provide practical assistance at times of need to mineworkers, former mineworkers and their families. Requests for our services can be made by anyone.
